Writers conference will focus on practicalities

Some writers conferences focus on how to craft the words, sentences and idea into a literary product. But next weekend’s conference presented by the Alaska Writers Guild will also focus on how to get your writing to an audience beyond your immediate family and friends — that is so say agents, publishers, book-buyers and general readers.

Pruning lilacs now will hurt flowers next season

I get this question a lot: "Is it too late to prune a lilac bush? It is blocking our view." The actual answer is that it probably is too late if you don’t want to harm your chances of getting flowers next year. This is because lilacs start developing next year’s flowers a couple of weeks after this year’s produce seeds.
