Victor Martinez’s two-run double keyed a six-run ninth inning that lifted the Boston Red Sox to an 8-4 victory over the Texas Rangers on Friday night, preserving their lead in the AL wild card.

Florida 6, Colorado 5: Josh Johnson allowed one hit and had 11 strikeouts in 71/3 innings, and the Marlins won for the seventh time in eight games to climb within two games of the Rockies, who lead the wild-card race. Johnson (12-2) had not given up a hit until Garrett Atkins homered on a 3-2 pitch with two outs in the seventh. The Rockies struck out 15 times.

Toronto 5, Tampa Bay 2: Roy Halladay gave up two runs over eight innings, and Lyle Overbay and Adam Lind homered for the Blue Jays. Halladay (13-5) was 0-2 in three previous starts against the Rays this season. He pitched at least eight innings for the fifth time in his last six starts. The Blue Jays got homers from Lyle Overbay and Adam Lind.

Horton wins U.S. gymnastics title

Jonathan Horton established himself as the one to watch early in this Olympic cycle — winning his first national gymnastics title Friday night in a runaway over Tim McNeill and Wes Haagensen.
